talking about real world learning (5.5 MB)
About the I-Search
" I think the overall benefit is that we talk a lot about trying to
show the kids what real world learning is like, and this project has forced
us to do it because we're not looking at any prepared papers. We're creating
the curriculum ourselves. We're getting the kids to act as if they were
really doing research as one does professionally, where they have to go
out into the world, whether its talking to people, using the Internet, using
the telephone, networking, writing letters, communicating, and knowing how
to get information that's not from a printed text which is primarily what
they've been doing all along. And the kids have enjoyed that "
