As educators and researchers, we believe that:
- Nothing is more important than preparing our children for the anticipated and unimagined challenges of the 21st century.
- All children have the capacity and motivation to learn. All children must have equal access to opportunities that improve learning.
- The key to school improvement involves creating a supportive environment in which both adults and children can ask essential questions, apply new knowledge, and discover creative courses of action.
- Diversity energizes and strengthens schools and communities.
- Including students with disabilities in the regular education program helps all students learn.
- Families, schools, and community share responsibility for successful education. Working together they help children learn, solve problems, take risks, express themselves, and develop empathy.
FSC engages in a wide variety of research, development, and school improvement programs. These programs are designed to:
- Foster comprehensive school improvement, particularly at the middle-grades level
- Ensure the participation and progress of students with disabilities in rigorous academic programs
- Promote student literacy in grades K–12
- Strengthen the links among families, schools, and their surrounding communities
In all our work, we make use of innovative technologies to facilitate adult and student learning. We pay special attention to students who are placed at risk due to poverty, family background, or other factors.
