Catherine Miles Grant
Project Director I
Catherine Miles Grant is a project director in the Center for the Development of Teaching. For a number of years Catherine’s work has focused on supporting leadership for mathematics education within schools and districts. She directs the Lenses on Learning Secondary: Leadership for Mathematics in Middle and High Schools project, and is also evaluator and researcher on another National Science Foundation-funded project, Lead Learners in Mathematics, to develop math leadership in the Boston Public Schools. Catherine was primary author of the Lenses on Learning course materials for school and district administrators at the elementary level and worked both as director and facilitator of summer institutes to prepare participants to facilitate Lenses on Learning courses. She was co-developer of the Images videotaped case exploring a principal’s instructional leadership in support of mathematics education, and was senior researcher with Putting Something on the Line, a study of links between ideas about mathematics, learning, and teaching and elementary school principals’ practice.
Prior to joining EDC’s work with administrators and mathematics education she was a senior research associate at TERC in Cambridge, MA. She is a former classroom teacher, special education teacher, staff developer, and math coordinator at the elementary and middle school levels.
