Buyer Beware: Rates, Ratios, Percents, and Proportions
Students first study rates through unit pricing and use graphs and calculators
to find the best buy. Students then learn about different ways to think about
and solve problems with ratios and proportions. Finally, students explore
percents and pie charts by organizing information for sports teams and planning
a sports banquet. Throughout the unit, students are in the role of consumer
reporters, reporting on fictitious claims made about different products.
