The Activity Center was an extension of the Workshop that offered participants an opportunity to work hands-on with the concepts discussed in the topic areas. During the Workshop, Activity participants designed an emergent writing unit based on a storybook of their choice.
Workshop Activities:
Books for Learning: Participants chose a book and evaluated it using the Books for Learning Checklist. They then used the format presented in Favorite Books for Learning to write a book review with goals.
The Art and Writing Connection: Using the book selected in Week 1, participants designed one light tech and one high-tech extension activity to promote independent creativity through art.Making Writing Fit into Your Busy Schedule Using the book selected in Week 1, participants designed a simple light tech, device-based, or software-based story construction. Using the old story line, participants added new content (e.g., different characters, actions, descriptors used to fill in slots in the story line) in Weeks 3 &4.
