Dear EdEquity Members:

Due to the overwhelming of responses to the GSDL survey, I have decided to
incorporate future responses onto one large message. So that we may not
clutter your mailboxes with messages.

Gender and Diversity Institute sends its thanks for your participation in
this survey.

Subject: [EDEQUITY] Quick survey on equity
We are interested in identifying what the following phrases about "equity"
mean to you? Please keep your responses to each of the phrases no more
than five words.
1. Gender equity
2. Equity for people with disabilities
3. Equity for people of all ethnicities

The Responses:
#1 From: koconn4 <koconn4@lausd.k12.ca.us>
Subject: [EDEQUITY] Quick survey on equity
1. Fairness regarding a person's sex
2. Fairness regarding a person's disability
3. Fairness regarding a person's ethnicity

We should be careful to distinguish equity from equality. Equality is fine
for
similarly situated groups or classes - It can be inequitable for groups or
classes that are not similarly situated because of the harms incurred
through
past discriminatory practices.

Maybe they are more than 5 words
1.Gender equity -- measures taken to achieve equality across genders
2.Equity for people with disabilities -- special measures taken to give
equal access to disabled persons
3.Equity for people of all ethnicities -- measures for specific groups
to create universal equality (note they would not be the same across
groups)

Equity: A forever issue for Democracy
Equity - No assumption for "Equity" itself
Equity - Definitions depend on cultural backgrounds

**Five words is really insufficient (try at LEAST five sentences), but I'll
give you what I can with five words.

1. Gender equity - equal rights for men, women.
2. Equity for people with disabilities - equal access to opportunities.
3. Equity for people of all ethnicities - not judging based on race.

**Just curious as why equality for religous minorities and gay people
wasn't included in this survey?
