Thank you for inviting me to participate in this online dialogue. I have
found the questions and comments extremely thoughtful and thought-provoking
as well. One respondent's concern that Title IX had been "relegated to an
athletic law" and her "interest in the relative legal and other strengths
of Title IX as compared to the Civil Rights Act of 1964" were certainly
interesting and important perceptions.

The Women's Bureau continues to provide programs and resources for girls
and women to encourage and support career choices which promote economic
and financial security for themselves and their families. During the
course of the Dialogue, the National Office of the U.S. Department of Labor
Women's Bureau has informed the regional offices that the Girls E-Mentoring
in Science, Engineering, and Technology (GEM-SET) Project will be extended
for at least another year from October 1, 2002 through September 30, 2003.
The Project will be expanded to include the following geographic regions
which were not included this year: New York/New Jersey, the West, the
Southwest, and Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The ages of the
participating girls may be sixteen to eighteen under next year's Program.

The Women's Bureau is also launching a new multi-regional Program in
Nontraditional Occupations for Women in addition to the WANTO (Women in
Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations) Program the Bureau
administers. More information will be available on both the expanded
GEM-SET and the Nontraditional programs in the coming months.

Thank you to the WEEA Equity Resource Center at the Education Development
Center for providing all of us with the opportunity to dialogue and network
online.
