Katherine,
What exactly are you looking for in the research on nontraditional career
roles? Are you looking for information about the careers themselves, how
one chooses to go into these careers, obstacles, success/failure rates,
feelings of isolation, etc.

A book that just talks about women's issues, that I have found helpful and
interesting is Women's Lives: Themes and Variations in Gender Learning, 2nd
Ed. by Bernice Lott. I think the corresponding book on men is Men's Lives
by Michael Kimmel.
