I wonder how girls fare in the special education system when their
family-cultural background perhaps adheres to more traditional gender roles
and gender-related expectations than those that would be encountered in the
American mainstream. In my professional work, I have encountered a more
traditional gender role orientation in some Hispanic families and I wonder
how that translates with regard to seeking services, service
implementation, etc?

I am interested in knowing if others have faced this issue and if so, how
has it been addressed?
