Another resource for thinking about equity, particularly as it relates to
mathematical software for children is:

Through the Glass Wall: Computer Games for Mathematical Empowerment
http://www.terc.edu/glasswall

Visit this website for information about this NSF-funded research project,
which spent two years looking at how girls and boys play mathematical
computer games in order to consider and describe what makes a good
mathematical and equitable computer game. The site also contains
descriptions of over 50 games and in depth reviews of almost half of them
which focus on the following three criteria:
     * is the game mathematical?
     * is the game equitable?
     * is the game a good game?

Also available are sample diaogues of children playing and interacting with
games, and suggested web links and print resources. Topics include:
     * gender and technology, mathematics, and play
     * technology in the education and in the classroom
     * technology and popular culture, "games for girls"
     * advice on choosing software, links to reviewers and sellers

Thoughts on the site and its content are appreciated!
