Heather,

The August 1999 issue of a teen mag, YM (Young & Modern) has a three-page
spread on the sexual orientation harassment experiences of Alana Flores of
Morgan Hill, CA, at Live Oak High School. Depositions were taken last
spring, and the almost one million dollar lawsuit (on behalf of Alana and
other six students) against the school will be in court next month. I spent
last year teaching ESL students at this school, and I will suggest that
Alana's (and her friends) experiences with discrimation at that locale, are
just the tip of the iceberg. The exclusionary practices extend as well to
the language minority students (and their teachers).

Dang, I just re-read your post, and now realize you were interested only in
ethnic diversity. Sorry. I will post this anyway.
