I,too, am not from this country. we attended our graduation in our best
school uniforms.
however, the issue of dress did come up when i was a member of a board of
education: very expensive and innapropriate in style versus very informal
and somewhat tatty (as in torn jeans). our solution was to have all
students in burgundy gowns provided by the district. there was no
grumbling
and everything went off very well.
