EQUITY BROWN BAG SERIES
CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF TITLE IX:
GENDER EQUITY NOW
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Title IX of the Education
Amendments of 1972, known simply as Title IX. You may have heard of Title
IX in relation to sports but it covers much more than that. Join us as we
begin a year-long celebration of the successes of this landmark legislation
and explore current challenges in achieving gender equity in schools.
DATE: May 15, 2002
TIME: 12:00 to 1:30 p.m.(Eastern Time)
PLACE: Education Development Center, Inc.
65 Chapel Street, Main Conference Room
Newton, MA 02458
FREE Title IX resource packet available to everyone who attends.
The first in our new Equity Brown Bag series, this session will focus on
what Title IX is, address some of the myths about the law, and provide
examples of how some schools are addressing key educational equity issues
today. Future Equity Brown Bags will examine gender equity issues in
disability, testing/assessment, and technology.
This Brown Bag also will provide excellent background information for an
exciting on-line Dialogue with the Experts to be held May 20-31, on
EdEquity, the WEEA Center's international discussion list. The Dialogue
will feature guest panelists who were pioneers in the field of gender
equity as well as new voices in the field. Instructions for subscribing
to the on-line discussion are available on the WEEA Center's web site at
Please RSVP by Monday, May 13th, to Jolene Pinder at firstname.lastname@example.org
