about a public hearing held yesterday by the Washington state Senate Higher
Education Committee, which I chair, on the state's compliance with federal
and state gender equity in intercollegiate athletics statutes. It was
particularly germane given the rumors of the Bush Administration's
announcement (that was not made on Wednesday) of placing Title IX on hold
to determine if there would be changes made in regulations because of
females supposedly not being as interested in participation in athletics as
are males.
