Attached is a copy of the U.S. Department of Education's press release for
the Title IX Commission hearings. The hearings are open to the public, and
include two public comment sessions where you are encouraged to voice your
thoughts and experiences with Title IX. The town meetings are being held
at various locations throughout the country, and will allow participants to
engage in discussion about the merits of the Title IX legislation, as well
as influence the Commission's report to the Secretary of Education in
January.

Please note that those who wish to participate in the public comment period
must register before the deadlines for each region, by email. Details on
registration procedures and comment submission are listed in the release
below.

Town Hall Meetings?Secretary's Commission on Opportunity in Athletics

September 17-18 meeting, Chicago

The general public is invited to attend each of the Town Hall meetings. In
an effort to provide adequate accommodations for those attending we ask
that you register with the Commission office by email at
OpportunityinAthletics@ed.gov or fax 202-260-4560. Please include in your
registration your name, affiliation if appropriate, and contact
information.

Each Town Hall meeting will include three panels composed of four invited
speakers to make statements on the various topics addressed in the
commission's charter.
Those who would like to be considered to participate as one of the invited
speakers please submit your request by email at
OpportunityinAthletics@ed.gov. The request should include the name of the
person and/or organization to be represented and a short paragraph stating
what aspect of Title IX and the Charter you would like to address. Requests
will be reviewed and the selection will be made so as to provide a broad
representation on a wide range of issues within Title IX as it relates to
athletics.

All aspects of Title IX as it relates to athletics will be considered at
each Town Hall meeting. The second meeting in Chicago will primarily focus
on Title IX as it relates to High Schools and Junior Colleges; however
there will be an opportunity to comment on Title IX in general.

however there will not be opportunity for public comment.
October 22-23, Town Hall Meeting, Colorado Springs: Specific location to be
determined.

October 22:
9:00-12:30 Three panels each composed of four invited speakers.
2:00-5:00 Presentations by the general public.

October 23:
Beginning at 9:00, Commissioners will regroup to review and process what
they heard the previous day. The general public may observe this meeting;
however there will not be opportunity for public comment.
November 20-21, Town Hall Meeting, San Diego: Specific location to be
determined.

November 20:
9:00-12:30 Three panels each composed of four invited speakers.
2:00-5:00 Presentations by the general public.

November 21:
Beginning at 9:00, Commissioners will regroup to review and process what
they heard the previous day. The general public may observe this meeting;
however there will not be opportunity for public comment.
December 4, Philadelphia: Beginning at 9:00 the Commissioners will meet to
discuss and focus on the Report. Specific location to be determined. The
general public may observe this meeting; however there will not be
opportunity for public comment.

January 8, Washington, DC: Beginning at 9:00 the Commissioners will meet to
discuss and focus on the Report. Specific location to be determined. The
general public may observe this meeting; however there will not be
opportunity for public comment.
