IWITTS seeking East Coast Site for WomenTech Project

IWITTS's WomenWorking Technical (WomenTech) Project was funded by the National
Science Foundation (NSF) to start on December 1, 1999. This is a three-year
Project that is funded at $625,000 over three years. The goals of the WomenTech
Project are to increase the number of women enrolled and retained in Science,
Math, Engineering and Technology (SMET) education in three community college
demonstration sites and to disseminate nationally the Project's successful
strategies and best practices.

IWITTS is seeking an East Coast demonstration site. Visit the IWITTS Web site
at www.iwitts.com for a WomenTech East Coast site application and for more
information. The deadline for application is November 10, 1999. Finalists will
be interviewed during November and a site will be selected by December 1, 1999.
The demonstration site will receive free training and technical assistance from
IWITTS over a three year period. (There is not pass through dollars to the
demonstration sites).

IWITTS has a demonstrated track record in increasing the number of females in
SMET occupations through its New Workplace for Women Project and is nationally
known for its Futures Training (Preparing Young Women for High Skill High Wage
Careers) conducted throughout the country which have consistently received
excellent evaluations. See the IWITTS Web site for a client list, evaluations,
and a description of past projects.

Two demonstration sites have been selected: North Harris Montgomery Community
College in Houston and North Seattle Community College. Houston Community
College and Lee College of Baytown, Texas will also participate in a regional
Gulf Coast strategy. Donna Milgram, Executive Director of IWITTS, is the
Principal Investigator for the Project. Dr. Christal Albrecht of North Harris
and Dr. Mary Burnett of North Seattle are co-Principal Investigators.

The National Advisory Committee for the Project is Chaired by Lynn Barnett of
the American Association of Community Colleges and represented organizations
