This is to respond to Linda Shevitz,Maryland State Department. Governor's
Council on Girls:
I think it is very interesting to have such a council on girls. I am the
director of the Center for Washington Nontraditional Training and
Employment and I am coordinating a statewide conference focusing on
recruiting females and girls into nontraditional training in the college
system. I wonder the mission and goals of our statewide nontraditional
project are related to the purpose of your
Commission. I have an Advisory Committee formed by several organizations
that want to do a good job on recruiting, retaining, and placing girls and
women into nontraditional careers. If my mission and your mission are
somewhat related, maybe I can help. For more information on our center and
the current 2001 Washington Statewide Nontraditional Conference held on
Feb.
5 & 6, 2001, please visit our website www.edcc.edu/nontrad/events.htm.
Thanks.

The Governor of Maryland has recently appointed a 19-member
"Commission/Council on Girls" to assess the status of girls statewide in
areas such as education, health, safety, etc., and to make recommendations
to state legislators and policy-makers..... We're interested in knowing
how the Commission functioned and what type of recommendations were made.
Please let me know. Thanks !Linda Shevitz , Maryland State Department
