[EDEQUITY Immigrant Dialogue] Immigrant girls' career development

I was wondering if panelists, and others on the list, have any thoughts
about how (or whether) being an immigrant affects girls' career choices.
In
particular, are immigrant girls less likely, or more likely, to choose
technical classes or classes that are non-traditional for the gender? How
do their parent's cultural views factor into this? Are immigrant parents
more reluctant to let their daughters participate in predominantly male
classrooms? Does it depend on the country of origin, and what that
country's cultural norms are with regards to women and work? I'd be very
interested in hearing from those of you who work with immigrant girls --
what your experiences are, what strategies you've developed to help
immigrant girls and their parents make informed career decisions, etc.
