GRANTS
Grants to Reduce Violent Crimes Against Women on Campus Program Fiscal Year
2001 Application Kit and Program Guidelines

Since the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) was enacted as Title IV of
the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994,
groundbreaking work has taken place in communities as victim
advocates, police officers, prosecutors, and judges forge
relationships with each other to address violence against women. VAWA
has fundamentally changed the way that criminal justice agencies
within local communities address victim safety and offender
accountability. The Grants to Reduce Violent Crimes Against Women on
Campus Program, as reauthorized in the Violence Against Women Act of
2000, provides an opportunity for institutions of higher education to
bring this critical work to campus communities. Available online:

Moving Toward Inquiry-Science:The Challenges and Opportunities

· What is inquiry-based science?
· What kind of professional development do teachers need to move toward
     inquiry science?
· Is an inquiry approach right for every student?
· How can we address parents' concerns?and misconceptions?

Read an edited round table conversation with four high school teachers from
around the country exploring the decision to choose an inquiry-based
science curriculum. The panelists share their own definitions of inquiry
science and their own experiences in the classroom, in workshops, and in
meetings with parents.
The round table conversation is built around a brief case study and
accompanied by suggested resources and commentary from experts in science
education. Join the discussion:www.edc.org/TIC
