Welcome to the EdEquity Dialogue: The Voices of Girl's, April 23-27.
I'm Nancy Gruver, founder and publisher of New Moon: The Magazine for
Girls and Their Dreams. Our mission is to produce media for every
girl who wants her voice heard and her dreams taken seriously and for
every adult who cares about girls. We do this by publishing both
"New Moon for Girls" and "New Moon Network: For Adults Who Care About
Girls" and in developing other media by, for and about girls (books,
website, radio & tv). You can learn more at www.newmoon.org
Our girls' magazine and books are created by Girl Editors, ages 8-14.
These girls are real editors and the adults who work with them are
there to help and support and carry out the girls' decisions. It's a
truly collaborative relationship where the adults have to be very
aware of adult privilege and working to counter it. The girls and
adults bring different strengths and kinds of knowledge to the work we
do together. We're all constantly learning and our working process is
constantly evolving.
That's my hope for this weeklong dialogue where the adult members of
the EdEquity listserv will hear directly from girls around the U.S..
We have the opportunity to both receive the girls' knowledge and
share our knowledge.
Please keep in mind that short questions and/or opinions, plainly
stated, will help keep the discussion open and prevent us adults (who
far outnumber the girls) from taking over through sheer volume.
In that spirit, let's get started!
