online discussion. They are:

Hi, my name is Kiah. I am 14 yrs. old and I home school. Some things
I love to do are, acting, swimming, being with my friends and reading.
I live in Duluth, MN ( which is a very neat, small city). I think the
most important issue for girls today is peer pressure. The bad things
that girls are going through today would not have such an effect if
their friends and other peers didn't care about that stuff and judge
each other so harshly. Also, the media has a lot of effect on the way girls
think of themselves and each other. To be "cool' and "popular" today you
usually have to look a certain way and be the way the media says you
should.

Hi, my name is Ana. I am 13, Jewish, and in the 8th grade. I think
the most challenging issues facing girls my age today are: peer
pressure and media images. I am in middle school, and I see many kids
getting pressured into doing things they don't want to do. Media
images affect girls my age especially because they see "role models"
on TV and in magazines that are impossible to look like, but they try
to anyway.

My name is Emma, and I have been on the Girls' Editorial Board
for six years. I am in the eighth grade at Marshall Preparatory
School. I am adopted from South Korea, and I now live in the urban
area of Duluth. One issue which I find the most challenging for teens
right now is peer pressure. Many teens are pressured to think they
have to be thin, or do other unsafe acts in order to fit in, and be
considered popular.Friends are a bigger influence in teens' lives than
parents, and sometimes pressure from friends can lead teens into things
they wouldn't
necessarily do.
