Hello to all.
My name is Sha'Leya and I am a Junior at Lowell High School.
Most of the issues that really get to me is racism. Racism and Prejudice
really over ride some of the schools effectiveness. I feel I have a great
school that has one of the most elevating problems America faced and faces
today. Of course there will always be teachers that people get familiar
with
but, there are some that push you away because of race, location, and
political status.
For instance, if I'm on the girls varsity basketball team to get playing
time really depends on who knows you instead of talent. Now instead of
being
at a starting position I'd be a bench warmer, even if I was one of the best
players. Some of those issues I keep in my head so I DO NOT PLAY ANY SPORTS
FOR LOWELL HIGH!!! With me being a minority ( a sixteen years old female)
is
an issue because of stereotype people expect you to be. This is only based
on my experience that I've come face to face with for the three years I've
attended Lowell high school. Many people don't know that I'm on of the few
who knows the Headmaster very well and other great top officials of this
school, but I'm still stereotyped. I've always been one who has spoken my
mind regardless. If there was an issue I had I would say something about
it.
Maybe things will change in the future. thank you have a nice day!

Subject: [EDEQUITY Girls Dialogue]A couple of questions to the
participants

Thanks to Kiah, Ana, Emma, and Edwina for their comments! You have raised
a number of important issues and I would like to ask you just a couple of
questions.

- How do you and your friends deal with peer pressure?
- Are there certain situations when it is easier to resist what you see as
the negative influences of peer pressure?
- Do you and your friends try to help each other in this, or does the
pressure come from them?

And just a note to the group: The New Moon group was struck by inclement
weather last night and are at least temporarily off-line. We hope they'll
be up again shortly and respond to the questions posed them.
