REPORTS:
CONDITION OF EDUCATION: SHORT AND SWEET
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) publication, Condition
of Education 2000, is available on-line in a small and easy-to-use format.
The Condition of Education 2000 is an indicator report, summarizing the
health of education, monitoring important developments, and showing trends
in major aspects of education.

Indicators examine relationships; show changes over time; compare or
contrast sub-populations, regions, or countries; or assess characteristics
of students from different backgrounds and types of schools.

This easier-to-use publication includes graphs that highlight the 30
indicators excerpted from the Condition of Education 2000.
For more information and a copy of the report, visit NCES at.

SUMMER CAMP:
Citizen Schools is an innovative summer program that inspires and educate
9-14 year old children while strengthening community through unique
learning apprenticeships. The program challenges children to become
apprentices and
learn side-by-side with artisans, trades people and professionals who
volunteer their time. Children learn by doing as they actually write
children's books; design web pages; start businesses; build cabinets;
perform original dances; cook gourmet meals; publish newspapers, and much,
much more. Children who participate in this hands-on learning opportunity
will take 3 apprenticeships, participate in sports, learn team building,
leadership and public speaking skills and explore Boston's historic and
cultural resources. No For more information and to enroll your child,
please call 617-695-2300,
ext. 343 or check out our website at www.CitizenSchools.org

Kieve offers a week of fun for girls entering grades 5-7: building rockets,
climbing a ropes course, paddling on a lake and examining water creatures,
and creating motorized vehicles in design technology. Older girls (grades
7-11) go on wilderness expeditions and canoe, kayak, white-water raft,
explore, and discover. Mother-daughter and women's expeditions also
available.

WEBSITE:
Teachers in Conversation/the EDC Village
Last month, the EDC K-12 Science Curriculum Dissemination Center launched a
new web feature called Science Teachers in Conversation. The feature is a
kind of online magazine, including a case study about inquiry-based
science; an edited roundtable discussion with four high school science
teachers commenting on the case; expert commentary from Karen Worth (of
CSE) and Michael Tinnensand of the American Chemical society; a resources
page; and a threaded discussion board. I encourage you to check out the
site and to share it with your school partners and networks.

Final note:

Information on these resources is provided as a service to listserv
subscribers. EdEquity does not review or necessarily endorse these
publications or events.
