[EDEQUITY Dialogue]Funding for all programs not just boys

So if you're going to look at funding for boys' programs, please look at
all the funding for all the programs.

In a similar manner, if you are going to look at funding for girls
programs,
look at funding for all the programs. For example:

1) Funding for the US public school system. The most accurate statistic of

equity to look for is the gender breakdown of students on the honor roll.

A reporter for the St. Paul (Minnesota) Pioneer Press noted that in his
daughters high school only 18% of the recipients of "Academic Letters" were

male. From this we can reasonably conclude that the school is putting all
of
its resources into teaching girls - or they are biased against boys in the
assignment of grades.

2) The Girl Scouts receive substantial federal funding. As I mentioned in
an
earlier post, they received $50 million in taxpayer money to reduce the
amount of violence committed by girls. During the same time period, the
Boy
Scouts did not receive any direct federal appropriation.

3) Public libraries have become the new "Girls Clubs." Take a look at the
youth services designated as "model programs" by the ALA. These "model
programs" provide activities only for girls -- i.e. Mother Daughter Book
Clubs. Add the money taxpayers put into public libraries to the girls pot.

Just a few items. There are many more, including school extracurricular
activities (yearbooks, drama, band), violence prevention programs, funding
by
charitable organizations, girls sports initiatives, etc.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Barlow
