No, you're not making too much out of it. Ask, IN WRITING, that the varsity
boys & girls & the JV boys & girls be alternated, by season or by meet,
next
year. Ask for a written confirmation to be sent to you in a certain length
of time (2 weeks? not by the fall...that's too long) that this will be
done,
starting next season. Ask any or all: AD, coach (AD has more clout & the
coach may even have wanted to do it your way), Title IX compliance officer
(EVERY district has one, but remember their checks are still signed by the
district & they may not have the final word) principal, Superintendent,
School Board members. Go thru the chain of command. You could send copies
to
whomever you don't ask. Don't buy that the conference won't let it be done.
They must do it. They'll change if they are made to. They should've done it
starting after June 23, 1972. That's more than 7! generations of a 4 year
high school's student population.
Don't threaten litigation. You just need for this to be addressed in a way
that gives parity to all the student athletes.
DO NOT accept a verbal confirmation of this. If someone calls to tell you
it
can't be done, ask them why & ask them to put that in writing. You ask in
writing because you want the response to be in writing. You want to hold
someone accountable for their actions. If you get no answer within the time
you've stated,or one that doesn't seem right, let the person know that
you'll be taking it up with the school board at their next meeting & then
do
that. Ask at the board meeting if your district is in compliance with Title
IX.
They'll say "Yes, they think it is." Then ask for a WRITTEN opinion by
their
legal counsel saying that it is in compliance. Watch what happens then!
