Need Peer Reviewers for Physical Education for Progress Grant Competition

The U.S. Department of Education's Safe and Drug-Free Schools Program is
recruiting individuals interested in serving as peer reviewers for the
Physical Education for Progress Grant Competition.

Peer reviewers are expected to read approximately 10-12 applications,
prepare written comments that evaluate the applications based on selection
criteria established for each grant program, and discuss their comments
with other panelists assigned to review the same group of applications.

Reviewing applications is good training for grant writing and a good
opportunity to learn more about the strategies and approaches to prevention
that schools and communities are considering.

Reviewers will not need to travel in order to participate in the review,
and a small honorarium will be paid. If you are interested in reviewing for
this grant competition, please fax your resume (including your social
security number) as soon as possible to Nilda Johns at (202) 628-3812 or
e-mail it to nildaj@esilsg.org. The peer review period is scheduled for
July 10-24, 2001.

SUMMER CAMP
BUILDING WEB PAGES, NOT CAMPFIRES
IBM offers summer EXITE camps to girls to train them how to use and
install computers and build Web sites. EXITE stands for Exploring Interests
in
Technology and Engineering, and that's what over 600 sixth- and
seventh-grade girls who attend one of the 21 camps around the world will be
doing for one week. Women working in technology at IBM will lead the
preteen girls in collaborating over the Internet with girls around the
world. IBM wants to encourage girls who often lose interest in math and
science at this age, and will expose them to robotics, laser optics and
animation. [SOURCE: Wired, AUTHOR: Katie Dean]
