[EDEQUITY]Trading benefits between males and females....

The best definition of gender equity I've ever heard is:

Gender equity exists when males would be willing to trade their benefits
with those of females (and vice versa) and still feel that they are being
treated equitably.

If boys and girls and your school wouldn't be willing to trade their
benefits, then your school needs to work on achieving gender equity.

Hi folks,

I'm an 8th grade teacher in a medium-sized middle and high school in
Vermont. As one of a very few teachers here who have been trying to raise
awareness of gender equity issues in the classroom, I have been asked to
give a brief introduction and give a "pitch" for GE at an in-service
just before school begins this year.

The audience will include middle and high school faculty, administration
and some board members. I am concerned that there may be entrenched
resistance to the idea. One indicator came this summer when, during a
chat about it, one of my fellow teachers said "but we already have a
sexual harassment policy."

I need a good sound bite or grabber that will quickly demonstrate the
need, for our attention on this.

Thanks,
