Many people involved in career education and career counseling have
mentioned
to me how difficult it can be to schedule women in nontraditional careers
for
classroom presentations, particularly during standard school hours (which
of
course overlap with work schedules). The Her Own Words series of 15-minute
videos on Women in Nontraditional Careers presents women workers from a
wide
variety of backgrounds telling about their jobs in their own words,
speaking
directly to the audience. Many career educators find the videos a useful
supplement to live presentations as the videos allow presenters to include
many different women as role models. Women in Highway Construction, for
example, includes twenty-one women ranging from carpenters and engineers to
laborers and construction-company owners.
