Hi! I'm new to the list and wanted to introduce myself. I'm Bill Howe. I
am
an education consultant for the Connecticut State Department of Education.
Last April I was appointed by the Commissioner of Education to be the
state's Title IX consultant, a job I am very pleased to have.
Unfortunately,
we have not had anyone in this position for over 5 years so there is a lot
of catch-up work to be done. Fortunately, I was the Title IX coordinator in
the past for a school district and do have a background on the topic. As
part of my re-education I was thrilled to be able to attend the NCSEE
conference in Providence last weekend. It was great. I had a chance to
attend the session done by Hilandia, Sundra and Rebecca ( Technical
Assistance: Changes in the Age of Internet and New Technologies) and found
it very helpful.

I am also the consultant for multicultural education, emergency
immigration,
refugees and alternative schools. In that capacity I invite all of you to
attend the National Association for Multicultural Education's 11th Annual
National Association for Multicultural Education Conference being held Nov
7-11, 2001 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The theme is High Stakes Testing. Among
the
great keynotes we have are Kevin Jennings, Executive Director of GLSEN and
Peggy McIntosh. Lee Mun Wah of color of Fear fame, is premiering his newest
video Last Chance For Eden. You can get more information at www.nameorg.org
<http://www.nameorg.org> .

We also have the 6Th Annual Connecticut Conference on Multicultural
Education on October 25, 2001 in Waterbury, CT. Louise Derman-Sparks is the
keynote and Grammy nominee Joseph FireCrow is performing and doing a
concurrent session. More info at website:
http://www.state.ct.us/sde/calendar/index.htm
<http://www.state.ct.us/sde/calendar/index.htm> .

I didn't mean my first post to sound like a commercial but I do think there
are great things going on out there and look for opportunities to learn
more
at conferences like NCSEE. Thanks for the opportunity to be a part of this
ListServ and get ready for my 101 questions....
Thanks....
Bill
