[EDEQUITY] Responding to males showing their humanity

In response to "Showing their humanity" Too bad some of these media folks
who felt the need to justify the behavior not only of so many crying,
hugging males but also our president. Too bad they didn't realize these
men
were exercising a right!!! To bad they didn't state that these men were
"showing their masculinity."

How unfortunate is it??? for all the males in our country that some of the
commentators tried to explain and justify our presidents tears??? After he
clearly stated he was a "caring, feeling guy." How very sad was this???
that following those horrific acts on 9/11 this man, our leader, our
president, who was exercising freedom and demonstrating his courage to
openly cry and express what he was feeling, felt a need to explain his
tears???

Would our world not become a better place for all us, if we also took the
lead in encouraging and praising all males in our society for expressing
those feelings which were so clearly demonstrated to us in so by so many
men
immediately following those horrific acts on 9/11??? Would we not all be
better off if our president and some of commentators did not feel the need
to justify or explain such expressions of emotions???

Let us hope and pray that with the "New War" on Terror we also usher in a
new definition of "manhood."

Let's hope these rare images of crying men forever remain a vivid picture
in
our minds!!! Let us never stop assuring and reassuring our children that
crying is another freedom by which we are fortunate enough to have in this
country and when we allow our freedom of expression to arbitrarily be
repressed or stifled by profound stereotypical barriers, we waste and give
this freedom away!!!

In the end, we must teach our children well, we must continue to encourage
all males to exercise this freedom and pray they never prescribe to the
perverse definition of "masculinity" these terrorist prescribe to!!!

Subject: [EDEQUITY] "Showing their humanity" A window to the hearts of men

In the wake of our recent tragedy, I have found myself reflecting on the
cultures mixed messages about "manhood." I have been particularly struck by
a frequently used phrase in media commentary about men in the hours and
days following the attacks. Repeatedly, from the poignant images of tearful
hugging rescue workers in NYC to news anchor Dan Rather openly crying on
David Letterman show to the President and members of Congress, men
were characterized as "showing their humanity."Though this might be an acc-
urate description, this attribute also reflects an underlying message about
the acceptable context for mens emotional expression...................
