Hello, everyone. Sorry I wasn't able to get to this sooner. As someone has
pointed out earlier, private messages are inappropriate for this list. If you
would like to request something from someone, please contact them directly and
do not hit "reply." These types of messages generate a lot of mail, taking up
too much space and the receiver is sometimes charged for the number of messages
received. Ads (only educational equity), resource listings, conferences, job
listings (only educational equity) that relate to education or educational
equity are welcome, but please reply to the original sender if your message will
not further the discussion.

Also, I receive all of the messages from a special address, so you only need to
send me one message/red flag if I haven't responded to something going on.

If you're having trouble unsubscribing, please contact me directly or send a
message to the list with "unsubscribe" in the first line. I receive all messages
with subscription commands if they appear at the top, but please don't do this
instead of subscribing/unsubscribing yourself. I'm always happy to help someone
who's been unsuccessful with majordomo.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Relavant parts of the
User's Guide follow.

----------------------------------------------------

1. MAJORDOMO v. EDEQUITY:
EDEQUITY is run by Majordomo software on a UNIX server at EDC in Newton, MA.
Messages concerning your subscription should be sent to MAJORDOMO@MAIL.EDC.ORG.
Do not send subscription messages to the EDEQUITY list. If you have subscription
problems that have not been or cannot be solved by the MAJORDOMO, contact the
list administrator at EDEQUITY-ADMIN@MAIL.EDC.ORG for assistance.

To unsubscribe, use the command "unsubscribe edequity." Send the command in the
body of a message without a "subject" line to MAJORDOMO@MAIL.EDC.ORG:

Messages for the list should be sent directly to EDEQUITY@MAIL.EDC.ORG. An e-
mail message sent to EDEQUITY will be distributed to all subscribers of the
Internet list.

2. CONDUCT: Please be respectful and courteous at all times. Abusive behavior
and inappropriate and/or rude language will not be tolerated.

3. MESSAGE FORMAT:
-Relate your message to some aspect of educational equity as defined in the
introduction above.
-Make sure to use descriptive headings so that others will know if that topic
interests them.
-When sending a message to the list, ALWAYS put your name and e-mail address at
the end of every posting so that people can identify you and respond to you
privately if they wish.
-When replying to someone else's message, include only a few lines of their
original message (including the whole message takes up a lot of space and
discourages others from reading your message).
-Remember that not everyone on EDEQUITY is an Internet veteran and may not
understand some conventions that seem second nature to you. Please explain items
in your messages fully.

4. STOPPING MAIL: You cannot stop receiving mail from EDEQUITY temporarily. If
you need to stop receiving mail, unsubscribe from the list and then re-subscribe
when you want to begin receiving mail again.

5. WEEKLY DIGEST: The weekly digest is a compilation of the week's messages. To
receive the weekly digest of EDEQUITY messages, send the following in the body
of your message to MAJORDOMO@MAIL.EDC.ORG without a subject heading:

subscribe edequity-digest.

If you are already subscribed to the regular mailing list but only want the
digest, be sure to unsubscribe by sending this message to
MAJORDOMO@MAIL.EDC.ORG:

unsubscribe edequity

6. REPLYING PRIVATELY v. REPLYING TO EDEQUITY: If you respond to a message
received from EDEQUITY by hitting the reply key, everyone on the mailing list
will receive your message. This is appropriate when the contents of your message
are likely to be of interest to a number of subscribers. However, if you are
writing, for example, to request a copy of something another subscriber has
mentioned, please send your request privately, not to EDEQUITY. Similarly,
comments directed at a particular person -- approval or disapproval -- that do
not further contribute to the discussion should be sent privately, for example,
"Bravo!", "You are absolutely wrong.", or "Thanks ."
