PERSISTENCE PAYS
THANKS to all of the WFF activists who have been writing, calling, E-mailing
and faxing since we first raised the alarm (WFF 12/8/95) to save the Women's
Educational Equity Act. Many other organizations mobilized this year, and
WEEA has been funded once again (after being zeroed out in fiscal '96)
Congresswomen Nita Lowey (D-NY) and Connie Morella (R-MD) must be thanked
for their amendment to the House Labor/HHS Education bill that restored $2
million in funding. Although this is far below past levels for WEEA, it
makes a statement that women's education is not a zero. Thank Morella at
