Hello -
I have been enjoying the activity on the list, and want to introduce myself.
I am the Director of the PLUS Center at The College of St. Scholastica in
Duluth, MN. PLUS is an acronym for Promoting Learning among the
Underrepresented in Science. Underrepresented groups in science and math
include females, people of color, and economically and geographically
disadvantaged individuals. The PLUS Center was started in 1991 by Dr.
Cindy Johnson-Groh.

The PLUS Center has many programs for students, teachers and families.
Programs for girls include a science/math career fair, a one-week
science/math camp in the summer, and an NSF-funded Saturday program. We
also have coed science/math programs, including after school science clubs
and residential programs for students in grades 5-12. We think of these
programs as serving a "river" of young people. In this analogy, the two
banks of the river are families and teachers, so we have workshops and
inservices for them as well. If you would like to know more, email me!
