DEAN
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

New Mexico State University (NMSU) invites applications and nominations for
the position of Dean of the College of Education. We seek an individual
with a prominent national reputation who will bring creative vision and
strong leadership to the College which operates in a dynamic, diverse, and
collegial environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible to the Executive Vice-President/Chief Academic Officer for
the effective leadership and administration of the college;
2. Responsible for an environment promoting excellence in teaching,
research, and professional service;
3. Coordinates the activities of the faculty in developing and maintaining
the educational objectives and academic standards of the college including
accreditation;
4. Directs all graduate and undergraduate programs of instruction and
research in five departments;
5. Manages all human (74 FTE faculty and 70 staff) and financial ($4
million) resources of the college; and
6. Advocates on behalf of the university and college to the public and
establishes and maintains contact with school districts and related
community based organizations.

Qualifications: earned doctorate in education or a related field, five years
of effective leadership experience at the Department Head/Chair or higher
organizational level; and evidence of excellence in teaching, service and
scholarly achievement sufficient for appointment at the rank of full professor.

Preferred Qualifications: experience in working with diverse populations and
demonstrated interest in multicultural, educational equity and international
educational issues; fostering the empowerment and collaborative
participation of human resources to achieve organizational goals; developing
and maintaining externally funded programmatic research activities;
advocating successfully in complex organizational environments, technology
innovations, and P-12 public education settings; evidence of an
understanding of the interdisciplinary foci of preparation programs for
educators, clinicians, and administrators; and excellent communication skills.
