Linda, I seem to remember some issue of the Michigan DAC newsletter that
focuses on assessing multicult environment. I'm sure there's an assessment
in it. If you don't hear from Eleanor or Marta, you may want to call them.
I've been doing a little of that, so I may run across something else later
and will let you know.

There's a book called "Cultural Diversity in Organizations: Theory,
Research, and Practice," by Taylor Cox, Jr. (Berret-Koehler Publications,
1994)., that includes a framework for describing types of organizations:
monolithic, plural, and multicultural, that I find useful for gauging
roughly where an org. is. It's also got a good framework for guiding
multicultral change. I just used it the other day in a speech to 260
engineers for our Dept of Transportation. They didn't hate it, which was a
big victory. ("Come talk about equity and diversity, but don't mention
affirmative action...")

Let us know on the listserv if you get some good examples.

Hope all is well. Dont' know about you, but I'd love to be snorkling off
Maui RIGHT NOW. Hope to see you there. Missy
