SUMMERMATH TEACHING AND COUNSELING POSITIONS
MOUNT HOLYOKE COLLEGE
JUNE 21 - AUGUST 9, 1997

SummerMath is seeking several undergraduate students to serve as
Residential and Teaching Assistants (RA/TA's) for the upcoming summer
program. Each of our positions qualifies as an academic internship and
the successful candidate may arrange to be an intern through the Mount
Holyoke College Internship Office. SummerMath also qualifies as a
pre-practicum for the Education program.

SummerMath presents an innovative approach to mathematics for high school
age women. Approximately 100 students from across the country spend six
weeks on the Mount Holyoke campus exploring mathematics in a very
close-knit, diverse community. Our RA/TA's are vital to the successful
functioning of our community as they provide links between the dormitory
and academic parts of the program. Assistants gain valuable experience
through our one-week staff preparation week prior to the program and by
working closely with the staff on residential programming and teaching.

Candidates with residential counseling experience in multicultural
environments are particularly sought. Demonstrated leadership and
listening skills, ability to work on a team, stamina, sense of humor, and
interest in working in a creative atmosphere are desired. Pay
includes:
% Seven weeks room and board
% Stipend of $1,500.

In addition to serving as a Resident Assistant, each assistant will serve
as a Teaching Assistant in one of the following positions:

% Fundamental Mathematical Concepts % Creative Writing
% Computer Programming in Logo % Arts and Crafts
% Recreational Athletics/Activities % Assistant

To apply, submit a cover letter, including your reasons for wanting to
working with our program and indicating which TA position is desired, a

speaking to relevant academic skills and the other speaking to
residential experience and/or ability to work effectively with people
