I would cerainly go more with the second option than the first.
However in the first part of what you would be dealing with is the
stereotyping of teaching styles. My personal hunch is that many
students expect their female teachers to be "easier" than their male
teachers, perhaps only because most of the teachers they had in those
early "easy" years of school were female.
