All institute activities are designed with the specific end in mind:

discretion
of the participants. The purpose of the extended relationship is to
encourage
participants to continue acting on their plans for improving their
teaching and teaching lives.

At Institute '97 we will focus on important themes affecting our work as
teachers.

TEACHERS AS CULTURAL WORKERS
By acting through institutions and under the influence of ideologies
to what extent are we defending and maintaining a specific nationalist
culture of the United States?

ESTABLISHING AND MAINTAINING RACIAL AND CULTURAL EQUITY
To what extent are we defending and maintaining monoculture, consciously
or unconsciously,
while making claims to "valuing diversity", "equity", and "multicultural
education"?

EXAMINING CONNECTIONS
Enhanced multicultural teaching awareness, anti-racist analysis, and
creating racism-free culture.

IMPROVING TEACHING AND INCREASING THE VITALITY OF MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION
