Further update: Congress members are getting lots of mail on the
elimination of the tech prep set-aside in federal vocational education.
This has been a valuable and successful program. But they are not
hearing from teen parent programs, single parent programs, and vocational
sex equity programs. The American Vocational Association sent out a
legislative alert about keeping tech prep funding in the federal
legislation, but was silent on the existing provisions for single parents
(teen and adult) and gender equity. These are not included in new
proposed legislation.

If these programs are valuable in your states, committee members need
faxes that explain the benefits.

Here's what you can do:

Pass this message on to any and all affected program operators, inlcuding
administrators, and students.

Check to see if any committee members are from your state; if so, target
those members, plus the committee chair (Goodling) and the sub-committee
chair (Riggs). If no one from your state is on the committee, target the
chairs.

Call or fax with your concerns that these programs are in jeapordy if new
legislation does not include provisions for gender equity and single
parents. It is important that state leadership and state administration
money be sufficient to support such programs, and to provide leadership in
the equity and diversity through out the curriculum.

The subcommittee membership list follows. Please call or fax. Actions do
make a difference.
