The full House will vote on the new federal vocational education bill on
Thursday, July 17. After failing to get the House committee to agree to
keep the gender equity provisions of the current legislation, Rep. Patsy
Mink, a true leader in gender equity, did not give up. She is going to
offer the same amendment on the House floor. In a real act of
bravery, Conne Morella (R-MD) has agreed to co-sponser the amendment.

They are putting themselves on the line. We need to support them. Please
read the Women Work alert below, and call your congress person. A fax
would be even better. Important information for them to know is
-The Mink Morella amendment does not add to the cost of the bill
-what will happen to your programs if there is no sex equity in
voc ed
-the need for such programs to reduce welfare dependency and
prevent future generations of females from needing welfare

Thursday's vote will be very important.
