Hi. In my experience, Title IX is often overlooked in the area of special
education. Special educators too often forget that students with
disabilities have a gender and are subject to gender bias, like their
nondisabled counterparts. It would be great if the newsletter could help
highlight the relevance of Title IX to this group of students and encourage
special educators to recognize and meet their responsibility in this area. I
am working with Michael Wehmeyer of the Arc to develop a training manual for
special education teachers and others working with students with disabilities
on gender equity issues. Perhaps one or both of us could help you develop
something for the newsletter. Let me know. Good luck with this project.
