Regarding the discussion of K-8 books with strong female protagonists -- I
posted the following information a few months ago but thought I'd post it
again since there seems to be interest.

I have put together a collection of over 40 little-known books that empower
girls. All books are from small publishers, which tend to be less
well-known. I read over 100 books before selecting the books for my list,
and I chose books that were not only empowering, but also interesting and fun
to read. The books feature a girl character who stands up for herself,
and/or a strong woman role model, and/or a theme that shatters gender
stereotypes. I have books for ages 2-17 on the list, although the largest
selection is for ages 4-14 (grades K-8).

My list can be accessed on my Web site, the Brave Girls and Strong Women
Bookstore: http://members.aol.com/brvgirls. OR you can send $1 and a
self-addressed, stamped envelope for the 6-page list and a bookmark, to:
Jyotsna Sreenivasan, P.O. Box 15481, Washington, DC 20003-0481.

Hope this is useful!
