Hello,
I would like to introduce myself to the list. My name is Alexa Adamo,
and I am a first year Women's Studies graduate student at Georgia State
University. My main research interest is Education Equity. I believe it
can be a powerful tool for social change. After working with a population
of pregnant, substance abusing women and their families at a public
hospital for several years, I am back in school to figure out how to
PREVENT the many social problems that oppress women, people of color, and
the poor.
I plan to enter the doctorate program in Community Psychology after
I receive my Master's in Women's Studies. I believe integrating
feminist theory and community psychological strategies will be an
effective way to create long-term systems change. Right now, I am putting
together my thesis proposal: Educational Equity: Integrating
Feminism and Community Psychology to Create Social Change. [Or something
like that.] Hopefully reading what (you) the professionals have to say
will help me develop my ideas. I hope to/plan to work with the Atlanta
school system to find out how Title IX has affected the schools, the
teachers, the students, the girls, and where the movement needs to go in
this geographical area. I am in the very beginning stages, (I just
finished my first quarter) but I am very excited to find this area of
study/research/activism.

I am looking forward to reading the discussions of this forum!

Sincerely,
Alexa Adamo

P.S. If anyone lives in the Atlanta area and would like to talk to me
about their work, or if someone recommends an article for me
to read, or a project for me to find more about, please e-mail me!
