Dear Susan,

I was forwarded your request for information by Janalee
Meldrum-Jordan; I have recently joined the AAUW Ed. Foundation as
manager of the international fellowships program, and would be very
interested in the results of your research. I also might be able to help
you with resources--my last job involved extensive work with women in
South African higher education. I dont know what your research has
uncovered as far as South Africa is concerned, but there are several
organizations you might want to contact if you havent already:
The Africa Gender Institute-funded by The Ford Foundation and based at
the Univ. of Cape Town;

Federation of African Women Educationalists (FAWE) is a panAfrican
organization that has a branch in South Africa;

The South African government has recently created a Commission on
Gender Equality which will be researching all aspects of gender equity
issues for women and girls, although they are still in the beginning
stages;

There is also a magazine in South Africa call Agenda which considers
these same issues--they are pretty good about getting back copies to
anyone interested, if you want to contact them.

I dont have the contact information for any of the above with me now,
but could get it if you are interested--let me know.

take care,

Sasha Drobnick
