The U.S. Department of Education would like to know if your institution is using
a policy, practice, program, or product to prevent or reduce sexual or racial
harassment or violence against students in higher education that should be
shared with other colleges and universities.

The Subpanel on the Prevention of Sexual and Racial Harassment and Violence
Against Students in Higher Education, an initiative cosponsored by the U.S.
Department of Education's Gender Equity Expert Panel and the Expert Panel on
Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities, will solicit, review, and recommend
successful approaches in these critical areas.

We hope you will consider submitting your work for the subpanel's consideration.

Promising and exemplary submissions will be publicized by the Secretary of
Education, described in a nationally distributed report, and showcased at the
next Annual Meeting on Alcohol, Other Drug, and Violence Prevention in Higher
Education.

Mark your calendar! The deadline for the submission of applications will be May
1998.

A description of this initiative and an application form will be available at
the following Website: http://www.edc.org/hec/gen-viol/
