Everyone on two listservs, one devoted to education equity, noted that the
anecdote posted earlier showed that girls and boys play rather different
games; but NO one remarked that the gender equity educator was still
approving of the boys, and putting the girls down for not knowing how to
play the game--the only game he could see. This is also one of the
problems with Title IX and gender equity in the schools; it is still seen
as a law that can help the girls measure up. But perhaps it is time to
make the standard of education human behavior, not male behavior? By
the way, this incident actually happened. The audience of 400 teachers
laughed, with the gender equity expert, at the girls.
