Closing Statement-Jan Gray

The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) appreciates the opportunity to
participate and share with the EDEQUITY list members its views on the
application of Title IX in the single-sex context. It is important to
note, as discussed in my opening statement, that Title IX protects
both boys and girls.

OCR always remains open to instructional approaches that will help
improve student academic achievement, provided that they comply with
Title IX. Accordingly, although I can not discuss the pending New
York Young Women's Leadership school case, OCR continues to work with
New York City to explore all legally permissible options.
