Urge Your Senator & Representative to Support the Campus Hate Crimes
Right to Know Act, H.R. 3043/S.1493
The Campus Hate Crimes Right to Know Act, sponsored in the U.S.
House of
Representatives by Bob Franks (R-NJ) and in the U.S. Senate by Robert
Torricelli (D-NJ), would amend the Higher Education Act of 1965 to
include mandatory reporting of hate crimes based on gender or
disability.
Currently, the Higher Education Act of 1965 only requires colleges
to report certain violent crimes including murder, rape, and aggravated
assault. The Act does not require colleges to report hate crimes based
on gender or disability.
The Campus Hate Crimes Right to Know Act would amend the Higher
Education Act
by requiring colleges to report crimes such as vandalism, criminal
harassment, and simple assault, which constitute 84% of hate crimes
committed. It would also add gender and disability to the current list
of reported hate crime categories, which are: race, religion, sexual
orientation, and ethnicity.
Don't let hate crimes against women and the disabled on college
campuses go unnoticed!

Crimes Right to Know Act.
