Ted,

A better comparison for teacher salary would
be the to average salary for people with at least a four year degree.
A still better measure would be to compare total compensation
(benifits, bonus etc)for professionals living in the same area with
simular educational levels. This could then be calculated as one to one
or one to 10/12th. These two suggestions are still far from perfect but
they are more accurate.
