Subject: NNERCC Equity Web site is launched! (fwd)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Eisenhower National Clearinghouse for Mathematics and Science Education
(ENC) has launched a new Web project at http://equity.enc.org/. This site,
titled Making Schools Work for Every Child, is a collaborative effort
between ENC and the Equity Task Force of the National Network of Eisenhower
Regional Consortia and Clearinghouse (NNERCC). The site is a resource for
educators concerned about creating equitable classroom conditions in which
every child can succeed at school. These Web pages include a collection of
math and science materials to help teachers and administrators acknowledge
children's diverse strengths, identify inequities, and improve the ways
educators currently serve students with varied needs.

Among the resources included on ENC's Equity site are journal articles,
essays, and activities that will help users gain insights into their
cultural frameworks. Additional resources are designed to help strengthen
the preparation of teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators. Other
materials demonstrate how to examine school structures and mechanisms that
promote or inhibit the participation of members from diverse communities.
Visitors to the site will also learn how to examine building, district,
state, and federal policies and discover how to form local learning
communities in determining how best to serve a diverse student population.

The Making Schools Work for Every Child Web project is maintained by ENC
Online, located at http://www.enc.org. ENC is funded through a contract
with the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Educational Research and
Improvement. ENC identifies effective curriculum resources and
disseminates useful information and products to improve K-12 mathematics
and science teaching and learning.
